A Bond That Cannot Be Broken

Pastor Sam Dickerson Pastor Sam Dickerson

When we look at scripture, especially in the New Testament, we can see how important receiving updates through letters of both triumphs and trials that the churches faced was for their continued sense of unity and encouragement towards one another. With that heart in mind, we were inspired to develop this newsletter, which gives opportunity for us to connect ministries both locally and abroad through sharing the triumphs and trials that we face in our service for the Kingdom of Christ.

We desire to celebrate and be encouraged by what God is doing in our brothers and sisters as well as holding each other's arms up through prayer to be able to endure and persevere through the trials and tribulations with joy. The cross we each bear daily of a life willingly sacrificed for our King Jesus is what links us together with a bond that can't be broken!

"Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness, God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. So, after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever!"

More Than a Trip: A Branson Encounter

Early this year, our youth traveled to Branson, Missouri for an encounter with the Lord — worshiping, being ministered to, and building friendships that would change them.

From March 25th through the 28th, our youth spent time worshiping, being ministered to, and just establishing relationships with their fellow young people from Trinity Church. Here, two of them share how their Branson trip made an impact on them and the lessons they learned.

This is my testimony about our trip to Branson, and how it impacted me. Branson was such a beautiful place. Seeing the water, the mountains, and everything around us reminded me how much beauty God has created in the world that I do not always stop to notice.

But the best part of the trip was the friendship we built. Before Branson, not everyone was that close, and a lot of people stayed in their own groups. That changed on this trip, especially the night we shared what we have been through and what some of us are still going through. Hearing everyone open up really touched my heart and helped me understand them better.

Another special part of the trip was worshiping together. We got to praise God while Pastor Chase played guitar, and Roger read the Bible with us. We also compared different versions of Scripture, which helped me understand God's Word in a new way. I am also thankful for Pastor Jacove. He is patient, understanding, and always wants the best for us, and that says a lot about the kind of leader he is.

Our youth group has had some struggles, but we have already started to grow. I believe we will keep getting stronger. More than anything, I am just thankful I got to go and spend that time with my youth group. Overall, the trip was an amazing experience, and I am so thankful to be part of such a great church.

When I came on this trip, I expected fun. I never imagined how unexpectedly Jesus would move in my life. Before this, I was consumed by worldly things — lust, secular music, substances, and anything that offered the temporary high we as humans so often chase. I had never spoken about such a sensitive part of my life in front of other people before.

But on the second night, when we were invited to confront our past hurts and the things that weigh heavily on our hearts, I felt Jesus. In that moment, He gave me the strength to stand before everyone in the room and begin speaking. That night, the weight of sin lifted from my shoulders — not because I was speaking to people, but because I saw Jesus before me and gave Him all of it.

For the first time, I felt the ability to forgive, to apologize, to begin again. I placed my sin so deeply in that water that there was no room left for guilt. I am no longer ashamed of my past. I will tell this story to others because it has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus. I am no longer trapped in the guilt the enemy had engraved into my shackles, nor in the sin he once used to lock the door. I took the key from the Lord's hand, stepped out of that cell, and I am never looking back.

Afrika Wa Yesu — Seeds in the Soil of Africa (Part II)

What happens when a simple "yes" to God leads straight into the heart of war-torn Mozambique? We reached out to Rod and Ellen Hein, founders of Afrika Wa Yesu (Africa for Jesus), and asked them a series of questions to learn more about their ministry. This is Part II of our series, where we discover how what began as a quiet calling in the 1980s became a journey of faith, danger, and undeniable miracles.

Mozambique has deep-rooted religious and cultural traditions, including Islam and indigenous beliefs — how did you approach sharing the Gospel in a way that was both faithful and culturally sensitive?
"By speaking the Truth in love, never compromising the gospel to be seeker sensitive. Accepting that people believe what they do because that is the way they have been taught — not judging them for it, but telling them their time to hear the truth has come. Two things in particular Holy Spirit told us to preach: the power of the Blood of Jesus, and the power and fire of the Holy Spirit. When people understood Jesus is our final sacrifice, and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, they received healing and deliverance." — Rod & Ellen
What have you learned about effectively communicating the message of Christ in that context?
"Speak the truth in love, allow the joy of the Lord to be your strength. Laugh with them, weep with them. Do not judge people but show a more excellent way." — Rod & Ellen, citing 1 Thessalonians 2:8
What kinds of resistance or opposition have you encountered from those firmly committed to other belief systems?
"Resistance from Islam when they have mocked our outdoor meetings, sometimes throwing stones, threatening to burn our buildings. Seven witchdoctors in traditional dress of feathers and witchcraft items dancing around our group in circles, yelling and beating drums. False accusations — people telling lies about us to authorities to try and stop our work." — Rod & Ellen
How has the ministry navigated those tensions while continuing to show Christ's love and truth?
"By not returning evil for evil. Inviting people to visit our camp to sit and talk, or to find a neutral place to get to know each other. Some have been won this way. Agree to disagree and let them go. Submit yourself unto the Lord, resist the devil, and he will flee from you." — Rod & Ellen

Planting over 200 churches is an incredible milestone — what does that growth look like in terms of community impact and discipleship?
"Afrika wa Yesu exists to win souls, make disciples, train leaders, plant churches — that in turn win souls and make disciples repeatedly. Disciples and leaders are trained in our two Bible Schools, and several of our churches in the cities have night Bible schools. Each province has a pastoral couple overseeing the districts and towns through leaders who have been trained and placed there through this ministry." — Rod & Ellen
What are the greatest opportunities — and challenges — that lie ahead?
"We have opportunities to do more within our mission statement, to build more churches, reach more places — but the greatest challenge is transport across some of the worst roads in Africa, as our vehicles are old and we have frequent breakdowns." — Rod & Ellen

Catarina's Story from Mozambique

Trinity Church of Hot Springs has been actively supporting different ministries in Africa. One of them is through our friends, Rod and Ellen Hein of Afrika Wa Yesu, a ministry located in Inhaminga, Mozambique. Life in Inhaminga is extremely difficult for many residents, especially in rural communities — years of poverty following the Mozambican Civil War left the region with limited infrastructure, scarce employment, and unreliable access to healthcare, clean water, and food.

This is the story of Catarina Macoreia, one of the people Afrika Wa Yesu has helped, and how blessing her with a roof over her head has changed her life.

"My name is Catarina Macoreia, I'm 89 years old, but I'm not sure — I could be older, but not any younger than that. I want to thank God, the Church, and those who helped me in building this house for me. I truly have no words to express the joy I feel. I arrived here in Inhaminga almost at the end of the 16-year civil war.

"I remember when Josefa and Mae Elena (Rod & Ellen Hein) of Afrika Wa Yesu came to Ndoro several times by plane. They came to help people with food, clothes, and utensils — plates, bowls, and blankets — and above all, they preached the word of God to all of us.

"And today, as the days of my departure from this earth approach, they helped me build a good house to live in. To the donors who helped me build this house, thank you very much. When the day of my departure for heaven arrives, I will die with great joy. But while I live, I will enjoy this house that God gave me. Thank you again very much, this means a lot to me." — Catarina Macoreia

Even in the midst of hardship and years of suffering, God's faithfulness endures forever. He provides, protects, and blesses His children. Catarina's joy and peace in her new home testify that the Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad.

"And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19) · "The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad." (Psalm 126:3)
